Player Pathway
From First Light to Full Potential
Every star begins as a flicker. The DMV Stars pathway is designed to meet players where they are and guide them, stage by stage, toward their fullest potential — at a pace that respects how children actually grow.
This pathway describes how we think about development across ages and stages. As our founding teams form, specific programs and age groups will be confirmed.
Stage 1 — First Light
The earliest years
A joyful introduction to the ball and the game. We focus on movement, coordination, and fun — building a love for soccer before anything else.
Stage 2 — Finding Your Footing
Foundational years
Players develop core technical skills: dribbling, first touch, and basic passing. Small-sided play encourages lots of touches and freedom to try.
Stage 3 — Rising
Developmental years
Skills become sharper and game understanding grows. Players begin to learn positions, teamwork, and how to make decisions under light pressure.
Stage 4 — Taking Shape
Competitive foundation years
Players refine technique, deepen tactical understanding, and build the physical and mental habits of committed athletes within a team structure.
Stage 5 — Full Potential
Advanced development years
Players bring it all together — technique, intelligence, athleticism, and character — and pursue the highest level of play that is right for them.
A Pathway Built on Patience
We do not rush stages, and we do not promise specific destinations. Each player's journey is their own. Our role is to provide the coaching, structure, and encouragement that help every star shine as brightly as they can.
